Top-quality black opals are highly prized and were discovered in the legendary Lightning Ridge opal field in Australia in 1903. The Dark Jubilee Opal pictured here is a 318.4-carat free-form polished black opal from a mine in Coober Pedy, Australia, another famous region known for black opals. Coober Pedy means "a man in a hole" in a regional aboriginal language. With a certain kind of lighting, the reds shine with translucency, while the other colors are mostly hidden from view. Our 1-inch thick, polished blocks are crafted using a unique casting method that ensures crystal-clear, deep, and realistic images. The Giclee process is used to create the print, and it’s been enlarged for an unforgettable viewing experience. This piece makes a great holiday gift!
