This fresco, dated from 50 BC, shows a wealthy Roman woman playing a musical instrument called a kithara, similar to a lyre, a large concert instrument played by Apollo and professional musicians. She is adorned with a bracelet, earrings, and headband with a central medallion, all of gold. The fresco was discovered in a villa just outside of Pompeii, even closer to Vesuvius, and buried in 28 feet of volcanic ash. The fresco is bathed in a paint known “Pompeiian red”, commonly used by the Romans as background which forces figures to the forefront. Our 1-inch thick, polished blocks are crafted using a unique casting method that ensures crystal-clear, deep, and realistic images. The Giclee process is used to create the print, and it’s been enlarged for an unforgettable viewing experience. These look great on desks, shelves or tables, and also make great gifts.
