In the French Pyrenees, a cave called the Niaux Cave is filled with hundreds of ancient animal paintings, mostly of bison, horses, and ibexes. These paintings, a UNESCO site, were made around 13,000 years ago by a tribe called the Magdalenians. The most famous are in the deep Salon Noir where artists used a special mix of charcoal and manganese with a brush to create their animated paintings. Of special note are detailed bison figures, such as this one, which looks fully alive. The Giclee print is protected by a clear inch-thick acrylic block that makes it look as though you could reach out and touch it. They are created from a cast to produce a pristine image. Just put it on a shelf, desk, or table and enjoy!
